Chris Sutton believes Celtic’s recent run of good form is “too little too late”.

Neil Lennon’s men have registered three victories on the spin, and turned on the style in Paisley with a 4-0 victory over St Mirren on Wednesday night.

That result avenged Jim Goodwin’s side’s shock 2-1 win at Celtic Park last month, since when the champions have beaten Kilmarnock 4-0 at Rugby Park and Motherwell 2-1 in Glasgow.

The goals came from Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and David Turnbull.

Their latest victory has done little to quell fan unrest, however, with the champions still 18 points behind Rangers in the title race.

Sutton, who scored 86 goals in 199 appearances while winning four league titles for the club, found it hard to get enthused.

Shortly after full-time, he tweeted: “Celtic played well tonight but it’s hard to get excited even with a 4-0 win.

“Too little too late.”

Lennon was more upbeat, with Record Sport quoting him as saying: “I thought we were outstanding. It looked like the Celtic team of this time last year – rampant, full of quality, full of running and full of goals.

“Coming here is always difficult but we could have won the game by five or six tonight comfortably.

“That was far more like us – you’re scratching your head and thinking ‘Where has it been all season?’.

“We’ve got more or less a clean bill of health at the minute, the players are playing a lot better. We look really strong.

“That second half is the best we’ve played for quite a while, in terms of control and penetration, and having a real desire to score goals.

“It’s a great win, probably the best we’ve played here for a long time.

“I thought we could have won the game by more, wasn’t particularly pleased with our first half and I thought we gave the ball away under no pressure.

“I had a few words with them at half-time and in the second half I thought we were magnificent.”
