Fans who have been anxiously awaiting the sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie can now celebrate as the film has been given a title: “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.”

The film, which is named after the 1992 video game it is inspired by, will be released in April 2022, in just over a year’s time.

As well as releasing the title, the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter dropped a teaser trailer and informed fans that they can catch the movie in theatres next year.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 release date confirmed

Sonic the Hedgehog actor Ben Schwartz confirmed the release date of the upcoming Sonic movie on Twitter.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be released in theatres on April 8th 2022.

The first Sonic movie came out in 2022 and it set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a video game film in the United States and Canada, grossing $319.7 million worldwide.

The original release date of November 8th 2019 was moved to February 14th 2020 as a redesign of the character Sonic took place after Paramount received criticism over the Hedgehog’s appearance.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie title announced

The Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account finally shared the title of the upcoming Sonic movie on February 10th. They tweeted:

“Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious. Presenting the official title of the #SonicMovie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2! Catch #SonicMovie2 in theatres in 2022.”

The tweet confirming that the title of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will in fact be “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” received over 60 thousand likes from exciting fans.
