Everton, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to miss out on Mohamed Simakan with the Strasbourg defender set for a medical at RB Leipzig, as reported by Telefoot.
While an ill-timed knee injury might have scuppered his chances of a January move, it is only a matter of time before the Marseille-born centre-back is bidding farewell to the picturesque sights of Alsace.
TMW claimed recently that Everton and Wolves are keen on the £18 million-rated Simakan. The 20-year-old’s agent told Calciomercato in late-2020, meanwhile, that Aston Villa was another potential destination.
But RB Leipzig are hurtling full-pelt towards the tape.
In fact, the German giants are so far ahead in the race for Simakan’s signature that a photo finish will not even be required.
Leipzig and Strasbourg have agreed a deal and the youngster is expected to undergo medical checks in the near future.
ESPN backs this up, claiming that a long-term contract is likely to be signed at some point this week.

Interestingly, Simakan has been lined up as a replacement for fellow Frenchman Dayot Upamecano at a club famed throughout Europe for their ability to unearth the next generation of superstars.
The Mirror reports that Jurgen Klopp would relish the opportunity to partner Upamecano, who has a £38 million release clause in his contract, with Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
