Andy Townsend said on talkSPORT (5:11pm, February 8, 2021) that Liverpool star James Milner is not the same player he was a year ago.
The former Chelsea and Aston Villa midfielder believes that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp cannot rely on Milner to play 25 games a season.
The talkSPORT pundit made the comments about the former Leeds United and Newcastle United star while discussing whether the Reds need to evolve.
Townsend said on talkSPORT (5:11pm, February 8, 2021): “James Milner now is no longer the James Milner he was a year and a bit ago. He is still a great squad player, he is still a fantastic pro, but you are not going to put James Milner in that team and all of a sudden think, ‘Wow, he is ready to stay here for another 25 games. I can play him every week’. You can’t do that.”
James Milner is still an important player for Liverpool
Milner is a very versatile footballer who can operate as a midfielder, winger or full-back and has been superb for Liverpool over the years.
While it is true that the Englishman is past his prime and is now 35 years of age, he still remains an important player in the team who can make an impact in key games.

According to WhoScored, the Englishman has made six starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season, providing one assist in the process.
Milner has also made three starts and one substitute appearance in the Champions League for the Reds so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.
