Takumi Minamino may not have made much of an impact at Liverpool, but the attacker has started life strongly at Southampton, scoring on his debut against Newcastle United.
Minamino, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, joined Southampton on loan from Premier League rivals Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
The 26-year-old made his debut for the Saints today, as he lined up against Newcastle at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
The Japan international scored on the half-hour mark with a wonderful effort from inside the penalty box.
Some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to the goal for Minamino for Southampton today.
Below are one of the best comments:
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has been quoted as saying by The Evening Express that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told him that he “didn’t have the chance to give him enough time to play”.
The Japan international is unlikely to have that problem at the Saints, who are an established club in the Premier League and could end up in the European places in the league table.
Playing regularly between now and the end of the season would make Minamino a better player and would increase his confidence as well.
