The hit South Koreans series ‘Run On’ concludes this week, but will the show be renewed for season 2 and if so, when could it return to Netflix?

Today, February 4th, the final episode of Run On season 1 will premiere around the world on Netflix.

However, with the season finale only a matter of hours away, fans are curious if the show has already been renewed by JTBC and when the series could return?

Run On: Season 2

  • At the time of writing, it appears that Run On has not been officially renewed for season 2 by JTBC, its parent network in South Korea.

Unfortunately, there is no information available to suggest that the series will return for a second season.

The vast majority of 16-episode TV series from South Korea are only ever meant to be one-season long and there is a lack of information to suggest that this is any different for Run On.

There is also the issue of production; not only will the actors involved have other projects planned for 2021, but JTBC also has other shows that they are producing.

Even when talking about sequel seasons, Run On would be competing with arguably more successful productions such as Itaewon Class, Was It Love?, Private Lives or Mystic Pop-up Bar.

However, there is a possibility that the JTBC would consider renewing the series because of its popularity around the world on Netflix.

At the time of writing, Run On is scoring an impressive 7.8/10 on IMDB, 8.5/10 on MyDramaList and 93% on AsianWiki – easily enough to warrant a second season.

Only time will tell whether this global viewership will be enough for JTBC to renew Run On for season 2.

Run On season 2: Release date

If Run On is renewed for a second season, fans shouldn’t expect the series to return until late-2021 or early-2022.

The two factors that would affect the production of season 2 are scheduling and storyboarding.

As previously stated, the cast from season 1 may have other projects lined up for the rest of the year that would prevent filming from taking place.

As Run On is also an original series, the writers would need a few months in order to produce a coherent storyline that met the high standards set by the first season.

This article will be updated as soon as new information on season 2 is revealed by either Netflix, JTBC or the production team.
