Does Tully die in Firefly Lane? Let’s get the ending of the Netflix series explained after audiences suspect she’s gone.

Looking back on the sea of Netflix content which released last year, it’s safe to say that 2020 is going to be pretty hard to top.

Nevertheless, the streaming service is off to a promising start, delivering a wealth of diverse efforts already.

Film fans have tucked into some highly anticipated titles, from Pieces of a Woman to The White Tiger, animation fans have cherished the return of Disenchantment and documentary enthusiasts have recoiled in horror at Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer.

More recently, viewers have raced through the first season of Firefly Lane, an American drama series created by Maggie Friedman and based on Kristin Hannah’s novel of the same name.

While watching, audiences have asked an important question: Does Tully die in Firefly Lane?

Does Tully die in Firefly Lane?

  • No, Tully does not die in Firefly Lane. Although Kate and Marah’s discussions suggest that this could be the case, we later see her in attendance at the funeral of the character who did, in fact, pass away.

We’re led to believe that the pair may be on their way to Tully’s funeral, stirring shocks in the audience. Nevertheless, it’s revealed that it’s actually Kate’s dad who has died.

As noted by Decider, this deviates significantly from the source material.

In the Firefly Lane books, it’s not Kate’s father who dies, but Kate herself. Then, in the second novel – Fly Away – we follow Tully as she grapples with raising Kate’s teenage daughter.

So, Tully’s fate, at least in respects to life or death, is made certain at the end of Firefly Lane season 1.

Firefly Lane: Does Johnny Die?

Although we’re certain that Tully didn’t pass, the same cannot be said for Johnny.

He ventures out to Iraq in efforts to become a foreign war correspondent. However, a landmine is triggered and a shot of his unconscious body suggests that he may have been killed in the explosion.

We’ll have to wait until season 2 to find out, as actor Ben Lawson is adamant that he won’t be dishing out spoilers:

“You’re asking me to give Season 2 spoilers!?! People haven’t even seen Season 1 yet!” Lawson said. Look…um…I…(laughs), I don’t know how to answer this question. I think as long as I don’t say something stupid on this press junket we should see more of Johnny at some point.”

While that may suggest the character survives, he could be foreshadowing that the character will appear in flashbacks. Fans will simply have to wait and see.

Firefly Lane: Renewed for season 2?

As of yet, Netflix hasn’t officially made an announcement regarding Firefly Lane’s renewal for season 2.

However, considering the series has more source material to pluck from and its current ranking on Netflix’s top 10, it’s likely that it will be given the greenlight.
