Two months after one-time Celtic target Silas Wamangituka ripped Bayern Munich’s Champions League-winning defence to shreds, another Old Firm-linked forward left a bonafide European powerhouse red in the face.
According to Het Laaste Nieuws, Rangers attempted to bring a little-known Nigerian by the name of Terem Moffi to Ibrox.
The Glasgow giants baulked at a not insignificant price tag, however, and a few weeks later the 21-year-old was packing his bags and heading to Lorient instead.
Now, £7 million certainly felt like a lot of money for a young striker who, as recently as 2019, was plying his trade in Lithuania – especially for a Lorient side that was only promoted to Ligue 1 last season.
However, in Sunday’s clash with perennial champions Paris Saint-Germain, Moffi repaid a sizeable chunk of his hefty price tag in some style.

Against a star-studded side containing the mercurial talents of Neymar, Angel di Maria, Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi, Moffi was the headline-hogging hero in a win that will live long in the memory of Lorient fans.
With the score 2-2 heading into the final minute, Lorient broke at the speed of light. And if Moffi was feeling the pressure, he didn’t show it, sliding the most composed of finishes underneath the onrushing Sergio Rico.
His seventh goal in 17 appearances was undoubtedly his most important, lifting Lorient to within touching distance of 17th-placed Nantes while delivering the first defeat of the Mauricio Pochettino era at the Parc des Princes.
And if Rangers felt Moffi was overpriced last summer, imagine how much his price tag has risen in the aftermath of a 93rd minute winner against one of the planet’s most fearsome sides?
