Coventry City manager Mark Robins is convinced Gustavo Hamer has a future in the Premier League after Rangers were linked with the impressive midfielder, speaking to the Coventry Telegraph.
In a Sky Blues team short of genuine quality, a Brazil-born Dutchman has stood out a mile.
You won’t be surprised to learn, given his background, that Hamer is a player boasting eye-catching technical skills, a 5ft 6in pocket rocket blessed with a penchant for the spectacular.
With five goals from his box-to-box role, the 23-year-old is Coventry’s most potent marksman too and came within a whisker of a match-winning brace during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.
Hamer narrowly missed the target after unleashing a thumping volley, having already cancelled out Jeremie Bela’s opener at St Andrews.
And Robins believes if the former PEC Zwolle ace starts to hit the net on a more regular basis, the bids will start rolling in.
“You could see with the volley – it was really good technique – although not good enough because he didn’t keep it down. When he starts doing that he will move to the Premier League,” Robins says of the midfielder, who looks a bargain at £1.2 million.

“He hits the ball cleanly most of the time and it’s frightening because he’s only been here for a few months.
“So as that progresses, and once we get crowds back, I think we will see a difference in him as well.
“I think he – and the rest – will raise their level.”
In mid-January, the Press Association reported Steven Gerrard’s Rangers were watching Hamer closely ahead of a potential summer bid.
But after Gerrard struck a pre-contract deal for Bournemouth’s Nnamdi Ofoborh to join Rangers in the summer, Robins can rest a little easier for the time being.
