Harry Redknapp said on Sky Sports News (9:53pm, February 1, 2021) that Ben Davies is a good signing for Liverpool.
Liverpool signed Davies from Championship club Preston North End on transfer deadline day.
It will have come as a surprise to many, as the 25-year-old has been playing in the lower leagues of English football his entire professional club football career so far.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Redknapp believes that the central defender is a good signing for Liverpool.
Redknapp has pointed out that not so long ago Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder wanted to sign the defender.
According to YorkshireLive, Wilder wanted to secure the services of Davies in the simmer of 2020 and even enquired about him.
Redknapp said about Davies on Sky Sports News (9:53pm, February 1, 2021): “What convinces me that he is a good player is that Chris Wilder tried to sign him, I think for Sheffield United, a year or 18 months ago, so they tell him.
“He doesn’t sign bad players. I know they are struggling, Sheffield United. He is a good judge, Chris Wilder, and if he wanted to spend Sheffield United’s good money on him, he had to be a good player.”
The Englishman added: “The boy from Preston, I think he, from what I hear, he could be a big success. I think he could do well.”

Good signing for Liverpool?
With Joep Matip now out for the rest of the season, Liverpool needed to sign at least one central defender in the January transfer window.
Davies has extensive experience of playing in the Championship, which is a very competitive and rigorous domestic league.
The 25-year-old is a very capable defender who will be eager to make an impact at Liverpool, and at least for the short term, he is a good player to have in the team.
