Rangers target Marijan Cabraja rejoined his childhood club Dinamo Zagreb on a £1.4 million deadline-day deal and, speaking to Sportske Novosti, he couldn’t be happier.

The 23-year-old Croatia international certainly has a point to prove at the 21-time Prva Liga champions.

Dinamo let their academy graduate leave in 2018 but, after three seasons honing his trade at HNK Gorica, Cabraja is back – and back with a vengeance.

Dinamo Zagreb have invested about £6 million on a new defence, with £1.4 million going on the attack-minded full-back (SN).

And, for Cabraja, a long-awaited return to the Stadion Maksimir could hardly taste sweeter.

“I am extremely happy and proud. I returned to the club where I played in the youth teams since 2012, where I spent much of my childhood and, with work, effort and commitment, became a professional player,” says Cabraja.

“I will do my best in the Dinamo jersey and thank the club for showing confidence in me again. I look forward to the return as well as all the challenges that follow.”

Speaking to the Daily Record in late December, Cabraja admitted Rangers had been in touch regarding a move that would have seen him join forces with compatriots Borna Barisic and Nikola Katic at Ibrox.

The versatile wide man claimed the Glasgow giants were unwilling to meet Gorica’s demands, however.

Perhaps the runaway Premiership leaders felt £1.4 million was too much for a left-back who would have struggled to oust the brilliant Barisic from Steven Gerrard’s starting XI?
