Arsenal are willing to insert a clause which means any club who signs Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan will have an obligation to buy him, the Athletic report.
Maitland-Niles has attracted the attentions of a clutch of clubs on deadline day, with multiple sides now scrambling over the Arsenal youngster.
Leicester City have been put off the deal, however, as Arsenal are insisting that if they take him this month then they must go on and buy him in the summer.
Southampton are now looking like the leading contenders to snap up the 23-year-old, as they are prepared to accept those terms.
Maitland-Niles is more reluctant to move to the Saints than Leicester though, which puts some doubt over whether the deal will go ahead.
The news that Arsenal are willing to sell Maitland-Niles may disappoint some supporters.
Although Mikel Arteta has seemingly questioned the academy graduate’s desire, he has shown real flashes of quality.
And if he goes on to fulfill his potential at St. Mary’s, there is a fear among some supporters that Arsenal could regret letting the prospect go in future years.
