According to Danish outlet BT, Newcastle United are planning to make a bid for Genoa midfielder Lukas Lerager.
It’s claimed that Lerager is attracting major interest ahead of the transfer deadline, and is now expected to move on.
The report suggest that Torino and FC Copenhagen are particularly interested in signing Lerager, but Newcastle are planning a bid.
Newcastle want to ‘spoil’ Copenhagen’s chances of signing Lerager, and the midfielder wants to join the Magpies ahead of making a return to Denmark.
Lerager feels he still has unfinished business away from his home country, and Newcastle being able to offer a Premier League move is vital here.
The 27-year-old has turned out for the likes of Zulte Waregem, Bordeaux and now Genoa, whilst also picking up 10 caps for Denmark.
At 6ft 1in tall, Lerager is a presence in midfield, and whilst Newcastle fans may not like anything to do with Sunderland, ex-Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is a big fan of Lerager.
Poyet managed Lerager at Bordeaux, and was quoted in 2018 as saying that the midfielder ‘does not stop’, bringing up how relentless he is with his work rate and training even if he has a knock – an attitude that Magpies fans would love.
