According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic want to bring Ben Davies to Celtic Park before the January transfer window closes next week.
It has been reported that Celtic have opened talks with Preston North End over the transfer of the 25-year-old central defender.
The Scottish Premiership giants are close to agreeing a pre-contract agreement with the Englishman, who can also operate as a centre-back, but they are keen on bringing him to the club now, according to the report.
The report has added that although Preston manager Alex Neil does not want the defender to leave in the middle of the season, the Championship club in England could sell him at the right price now.
Signing Ben Davies now makes sense
With Christopher Jullien injured at the moment, Celtic could do with a new central defender for the rest of the season.
Davies is playing well at the moment and would be able to make an immediate impact at Celtic Park.
If the Hoops are able to sign the 25-year-old now for a relatively modest fee, then they should do so.
According to WhoScored, Davies has made 18 appearances in the Championship for Preston so far this season.
