Thomas Tuchel may only have arrived at Stamford Bridge this week, but he’s already got his eyes on new additions.

Having inherited a side that’s slumped to ninth in the Premier League following a run of five defeats, the former PSG and Borussia Dortmund boss will be looking to put his stamp on the club in the transfer market.

A report from German outlet SportBild says one player who could be arriving in London is highly-rated defender Dayot Upamecano.

They say the 22-year-old centre-back will leave RB Leipzig this summer, with a release clause worth around £38m having been built into the contract extension he signed in August 2020.

The report says that Bayern Munich are also keen on the Frenchman, but that Tuchel has had his eye on him since his time as manager of PSG.

They claim that Chelsea could have the advantage, as Upmecano can “imagine a change” due to PSG players in the French national side having “raved about Tuchel”.

FourFourTwo report that Manchester United and Liverpool have also been linked with Upamecano, who has been capped three times by his country.

Tuchel will take charge of Chelsea for the first time this evening as 14th-placed Wolves visit Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website after his arrival was confirmed on Tuesday, the German said: “I would like to thank Chelsea FC for their confidence in me and my staff.

“We all have the greatest respect for Frank Lampard’s work and the legacy he created at Chelsea. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the most exciting league in football.

“I am grateful to now be part of the Chelsea family – it feels amazing!”
