According to Pagine Romaniste and Gazzetta Dello Sport (26/02, p8), Manchester City have rejected the chance to re-sign Edin Dzeko from Roma.
Their report adds that Tottenham Hotspur were also offered Dzeko, but have similarly said no to a deal.
Roma even wanted to swap Dzeko for Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz, though that move won’t be happening either.
The 34-year-old still has 18 months left on his Roma deal, but the Italian side seem keen to shift him and get his wages of the books.
Dzeko has scored eight times in 20 games this season, but his total record for Roma is outstanding; 114 goals and 52 assists in 242 games.
Attempting to offer the Bosnian back to City had its merits. City are without Sergio Aguero at the moment, and adding a veteran striker to fill the void would help.
Dzeko was popular at City with 72 goals in 189 games, but Pep Guardiola seemingly isn’t interested in taking him back.
As for Spurs, they already have a backup striker in Carlos Vinicius, and adding Dzeko right now just doesn’t make sense.
Maybe Dzeko does find his way back to the Premier League in the next week, but it won’t be with City or Spurs.
