Phil Hay has claimed in The Athletic that Leeds United do not plan to sign a new player in the final days of the January transfer window.
The Athletic’s Leeds correspondent has said that the new investment from the San Francisco 49ers will not affect their short-term transfer policy.
According to the well-known and well-respected journalist, the Premier League club do not plan to bring in any player between now and the end of the January transfer window.
Hay wrote in The Athletic: “Leeds are in the final week of the January transfer window but sources at Elland Road say this second tranche of investment from the US will not alter their short-term recruitment policy.
“The club did not intend to make any significant signings this month and they are continuing to indicate that the window will close on Monday without any additions to their first-team squad.”
No need for new signings?
Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa himself said on Monday that he is happy with the squad, which actually did not please some fans, as covered by HITC Sport.
There is always room for improvement in any team, and while Leeds could do with another out-and-out striker to really push Patrick Bamford, there is no point in bringing in someone just to make up the numbers.
Leeds could also do with an attacking midfielder as Pablo Hernandez is not getting any younger, but that can wait until the summer of 2021.
After all, the Whites are doing well at the moment and could end up in mid-table in the Premier League.
