Glenn Hoddle has told his self-titled podcast that he thinks Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp needs to put Fabinho back in midfield again.
Liverpool have suffered their worst dip in form in recent years, and have won just one of their last seven games across all competitions.
The Reds look short of confidence at the moment, with their attacking play stifled.
Although Liverpool did score twice against Manchester United at the weekend, it is a long time since they have been seen at their free flowing best.
And Hoddle thinks that taking Fabinho out of Liverpool’s midfield has been an issue.
“I think with Liverpool at the moment there are too many changes,” Hoddle said.
“For me, eventually, they need to get them back to their strongest with Fabinho playing in midfield alongside Thiago and another in there.
“That would really be the engine room that Klopp wants. Get that back. Get those two back in there with Henderson or Wijnaldum, or whoever he wants to pick.
“The system and personnel is changing too much, they have got to get back to their better ways.”
The problem for Klopp is that if he does move Fabinho back into midfield then Liverpool have very few defensive options.
The £40 million Brazilian (Guardian) now looks to be Liverpool’s most accomplished central defender, with Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk out.
And while he is a big miss in midfield, it would arguably be a greater risk to depend upon the inexperienced Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips at such a crucial stage of the season.
