Danny Graham and Will Grigg are facing uncertain futures at Sunderland with The Sun (24 January, page 59) reporting Lee Johnson wants to free up funds for signings.
With Johnson confirming his desire for fresh blood in the final third after Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Shrewsbury Town, the writing is on the wall for two strikers who have fallen well short of expectations on Wearside (Chronicle).
Grigg, the £4 million millstone hanging around Sunderland’s neck, continues to make a mockery of the Stewart Donald era, netting just eight times in 61 games for the club he joined from Wigan Athletic two years ago.
At least Grigg has only endured one miserable spell at the Stadium of Light.
Graham flopped in Sunderland colours between 2013 and 2016 and things haven’t gone much better this time either. The 35-year-old has scored once in 17 matches – none in League One.
Graham has barely kicked a ball since Johnson replaced Phil Parkinson in the dugout so it should be no surprise that, according to The Sun, he and Grigg will be allowed to leave as Sunderland look to free up funds for a new face or two.

It remains to be seen who could arrive in their place.
Luke Thomas has already joined rivals Ipswich Town while Charlton Athletic completed the signing of Jayden Stockley at the weekend.
The Sun claims ambitious Salford City would be keen to take Grigg on loan.
