Call the Midwife usually returns to our screens in January but season 10 will arrive later than planned in 2021. But just when series 10 likely to release?

Since it first arrived on our screens in 2012, Call the Midwife has been one of the BBC’s most-watched and most loved drama series.

A new instalment has arrived every year in January but in 2021, that’s not going to be the case.

But is Call the Midwife season 10 on its way and if so, when will it be arriving on our screens?

Call the Midwife season 10

Call the Midwife first arrived on our screens in January 2012 and a new series has aired in the first month of each year since.

Following the conclusion of season 9 in 2020, Call the Midwife had already been renewed for series 10 and 11.

However, January 2021 has almost been and gone and no new instalment of Call the Midwife has materialised, leaving question marks hanging about when Call the Midwife will return for series 10.

Season 10 release date

  • Call the Midwife season 10 does not have a release date at the time of writing and will be arriving later than originally planned.

That’s because of filming delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the RadioTimes, filming on Call the Midwife series 10 was originally due to start in March 2020 but was delayed for several months thanks to the national lockdown imposed on March 23rd.

However, the date that the Call the Midwife crew returned to film series 10 could give us an idea of when the new batch of episodes might arrive.

Series 10 is filming now

  • Production on Call the Midwife season 10 finally began on August 31st, 2020.

The five-month delay in filming meant that production focused heavily on the 2020 Christmas special in order to release the festive episode on time.

Thankfully, the Christmas episode arrived on schedule and earned the most TV viewers on Christmas Day in the process.

However, the delay in filming means that series 10 will not arrive until later in 2021, most likely in May or June owing to the five-month filming delay.

On top of that, the number of episodes in series 10 has been reduced from eight to seven.

Until season 10 of Call the Midwife arrives, all nine of the previous series and the various Christmas specials are available on BBC iPlayer.
