Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has suggested to Leeds Live that Diego Llorente has impressed him enough in the under-23’s that he could now feature for the first-team again.

Llorente has struggled for game time since arriving at Leeds last summer, due to injury.

But the Spaniard now looks set to come into the Whites’ starting line-up, after an impressive showing with Bielsa’s side’s under-23’s.

Llorente scored the winner as Leeds’ youngsters beat Stoke City 1-0.

And Bielsa said: “The minutes with the 23s was an aspect that was missing so that he could return with us.

“Llorente has the characteristics of a strong defender. He is a player who is happy recovering the ball and he’s the player who has physical attributes who can help in the aerial game and the physical game on the ground.”

Llorente’s return for Leeds is a major boost, as their form has dipped badly recently.

The Whites have been short of options at the back, but Llorente should help to solidify their backline.

Leeds are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Newcastle United, in a game which looks like an opportunity for them to get back to winning ways.

Newcastle have been in awful form of late, and Leeds head into the match as heavy favourites to pick up the three points.
