Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has suggested that the club are about to sign Morgan Sanson from Marseille, as quoted on BBC Sport.
Sky Sports reported on Saturday afternoon that Villa have agreed a fee with Marseille for midfielder Sanson.
The report claimed that the Villans will pay the Ligue 1 outfit an initial transfer fee of £14 million for the 26-year-old.
Following Villa’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday evening, Smith suggested that the former France Under-21 central midfielder is on his way to Villa Park.
BBC Sport quotes Smith as saying: “I have not spoken to our sporting director and there is obviously an inbound player and hopefully that is done soon.”
Exciting news for Aston Villa fans
Sanson is a very good player who would add more steel to Villa’s midfield and would give Smith another option.
The Villans are doing well at the moment and seem to be challenging for the European places, and a player of Sanson’s quality and experience will make them stronger and better.
As reported by Sky Sports, Sanson has made over 100 appearances for Marseille since joining them from Montpellier in January 2017 and is very experienced.
The 26-year-old has made 10 starts and two substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Marseille so far this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in the process, according to WhoScored.
