Some Arsenal fans on social media can’t understand why Mikel Arteta continues to pick Eddie Nketiah over Folarin Balogun.
Nketiah has been handed chance after chance in the first team, while Balogun has been biding his time, rarely getting a shot to impress in the senior side, and it seems as though Arsenal fans think their roles should be reversed.
Balogun’s frustration about a lack of first-team football has been well-documented, and reports have claimed that he’s set to leave the club this summer when his contract expires.
The Gunners’ FA Cup tie against Southampton represented another game in which Nketiah was picked over Balogun, and it’s fair to say that decision didn’t quite go to plan for Arteta.
Indeed, Nketiah was ineffective against the Saints, and the Spaniard’s decision to pick him over Balogun left a number of supporters scratching their heads.
We can understand why as well, Balogun has been crying out to get more of a game, and Arteta was looking to rotate against Southampton, so it would have made sense to give Balogun a go here, especially as he’s in form, scoring a hat trick for the U23s earlier this week.
Here’s what Arsenal fans have been saying on social media…
I really don’t understand how Balogun doesn’t get into this team in front of nketiah

Can’t understand why Arteta plays Nketiah instead of Balogun. Can’t have a shot on target

Nketiah is by far worst, he is not Arsenal class. Arteta still playing him ahead of balogun baffles me.

Why Arteta still prefers Nketiah to Balogun is beyond me and makes me question his judgement. https://t.co/Ue31RrhJgT

Please ask Arteta why constantly picks Nketiah over Balogun who is miles better.

Why does arteta keep playing Nketiah when he never scores or creates. May aswell try Balogun. No wonder why balogun is keeping his options open when players like Nketiah are getting in front of him. #arsenal
