Rennes ace James Lea Siliki is ‘very interested’ in a move to Watford as the Championship outfit hold talks over a loan-to-buy deal, as reported by RMC Sport.

With an Etienne Capoue-shaped hole in their midfield, the Hornets are looking for a new box-to-box enforcer before the February 1 deadline.

And it seems they are closing in on a 24-year-old who, not so long ago, was the subject of a £7 million bid from Portuguese powerhouses Porto.

According to reports across the Channel, former France youth star Lea Siliki is in talks over a deal that would see him swap Rennes for Watford, initially on loan but with the option of a permanent deal.

Lea Siliki, meanwhile, would apparently jump at the chance to join the Hertfordshire-outfit, who are just three points behind Swansea City in the automatic promotion places.

With just three Ligue 1 starts this season, Lea Siliki is understandably eyeing a fresh start after falling behind World Cup winner Steven Nzonzi and the supremely-gifted Eduardo Camavinga in Julian Stephan’s pecking order; despite playing Champions League football in the first half of 2020/21.

Yet Lea Siliki will not simply stroll into Xisco Munoz’s starting XI at Watford. After all, Tom Cleverley and the rejuvenated Will Hughes have been rather impressive of late.
