Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to reveal a mind-boggling statistic about Sadio Mané following Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley.
The Reds were conquered by the Clarets after Ashley Barnes’ late penalty secured a shock three points for Sean Dyche’s men.
After full-time, Lineker shared his verdict on the incredible result, and delivered the aforementioned eye-catching statistic.
You can see what the BBC Match of the Day host tweeted in full below.
Burnley end Liverpool’s extraordinary record of not losing a Premier League game at Anfield for almost 4 years. Mane loses his first ever home league game. Superb effort from Sean Dyche’s team who win at Anfield for the first time in 46 years.— Gary Lineker 💙 (@GaryLineker) January 21, 2021
Now, the fact that Mané only suffered his first defeat at Anfield last night is absolutely unbelievable.
Incredibly, we are only five months and six days away from the five-year anniversary of his arrival.
In that respect, the fact it’s taken him roughly four-and-a-half years to taste defeat at Anfield is a truly bizarre piece of information to digest.
Liverpool fans may be upset after last night.
However, statistics like the one highlighted by Lineker just goes to show how good they’ve had it under Klopp in recent years.
It’s disappointing to lose, of course. Having said that, Liverpool fans should still be proud that such an unbeaten run even took place.
It’s certainly something to be proud of, and few Premier League teams will be able to replicate it, in our view.
