Is Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 confirmed? Let’s consider the renewal status of the Netflix series.

Netflix is sure to unveil a wide range of content throughout 2021 and they recently confirmed that a new movie will reach subscribers every single week.

Audiences have already tucked into a number of new titles and Fate: The Winx Saga finally made its way to screens on Friday, January 22nd 2021.

Developed by Brian Young, this young-adult fantasy drama series is inspired by the Rainbow SpA and Nickelodeon animated series Winx Club, created by Iginio Straffi.

The show ran from 2010 to 2019 across eight seasons, following a fairy warrior named Bloom, who is portrayed by Abigail Cowen in the new Netflix series.

Some audiences have made quick work of its six episodes and have turned their hopes towards more. So, has Fate: The Winx Saga been renewed for season 2?

Is Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 confirmed?

  • No, Fate: The Winx Saga is yet to be renewed for season 2.

However, the first season does facilitate more episodes and there is certainly more room to explore and drive the narrative forward with another season.

After all, there are eight seasons of the animation to take inspiration from.

At the moment, it’s arguably too early to expect concrete renewal news from Netflix, and it’s likely that the streaming service will consider the viewing figures closely over the course of January and February before making a decision.

As for what to expect if it is renewed, series star Abigail Cowen has spoken with The Wrap regarding her thoughts on a potential second season, explaining and dispelling the misconception that Terra is a stand-in for Flora:

“If we are lucky enough to get a second season, I think Flora would be brought in and I would definitely welcome that. I’m not a part of the casting process, but I do think, if the series does go to a second season, I think hopefully these concerns are something that can be addressed, because I do think diversity both in front of and behind the camera is vital and much-needed throughout the industry and internationally.”

She added: “So I think it’s important that we are having these conversations.”

Speaking with The Guardian, the series’ showrunner explained that the biggest challenge of adapting Iginio’s animated series was settling on a tone: “It’s trying to figure out how we ground this show in real character moments, things that any audience member would relate to. And this is coming from a massive fantasy fan… but it is very easy to spiral off into absurdity with stuff like this.”

Elaborating, he added:

“Look, again, I’m a massive manga anime fan, and a fan of the cartoon itself, but, of course, those are cartoons. Nobody looks like that. It was the most important thing to me that every kid can feel like they see themselves in it … Real girls, real people.”

As for another big change, Brian addressed that “in our show, boys can be fairies, girls can be specialists… we’re in the 21st century.”

Fate: The Winx Saga is available to stream on Netflix from Friday, January 22nd 2021.
