Rangers fans have been given an insight into what they can expect from the potential signing
Rangers have been told they will be getting a “great addition” if they can land Zambian international Fashion Sakala.
According to Record Sport, Steven Gerrard is hoping to secure a pre-contract agreement with the KV Oostende man that would see him arrive at Ibrox in the summer.
Sakala, who has scored 23 goals in 87 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side, was previously at Spartak Moscow but failed to break through into the first team.
Barnsley defender Toby Sibbick spent four months on loan at Oostende earlier this season, and believes Sakala would be a worthwhile signing for the Scottish Premiership leaders.
Sibbick, who also spent time on loan at Hearts last season, told Record Sport: “I’m sure Fashion would be a great addition for Rangers.
“Fashion has a lot of pace and is direct on the ball.
“He can play as the main striker but also out wide and I know having played against Rangers last season they play with a front three so he can fill in on either wing because he likes to get on the ball and beat players one on one.
“He is quite tricky as well and is good in front of goal with the ability to finish with both feet, there’s no issue with that.
“He is powerful – not necessarily tall – but strong and quick so there’s a lot to his game.
“There are parts that he still needs to polish up on. Knowing when to pass is one.
“I told him this many times that if someone is in a better position to score then just slide it to them.
“That will come though.
“Oostende brought in Makhtar Gueye from St Etienne in the summer and while they don’t play as a pair they work well together.
“I saw West Ham and Rangers were interested in Fashion and I’d say he definitely has a big future.
“He is the talisman for Oostende. The guy they look to to make things happen.
“They want him tied down on a new deal but he wants to play at the highest level he can so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.”
