West Ham United are said to be ‘in the queue’ to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United by TalkSPORT.
Lingard has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month, after slipping well down the pecking order.
And West Ham are among the sides battling to try and sign him, according to the latest update.
TalkSPORT says that David Moyes’s men have expressed an interest in taking the England international, although Manchester United are reluctant to sanction a deal.
Lingard may not have played much this season, but the Red Devils know they have a gruelling fixture list and seemingly feel it would be a risk to let the 27-year-old go, who was hailed as a ‘unique’ talent by Michael Carrick (One Football).
If Lingard did join West Ham his arrival would likely be a divisive one at the London Stadium.
While Lingard would offer West Ham energy, his form over the past year has been poor – and his output has been concerning.
Lingard has arguably taken on a level of criticism which has been unfair on him recently, but there is no doubting that his performances have dipped from the level, which saw him make England’s World Cup squad in 2018.
If West Ham were to land Lingard he could give Moyes’s side more options going forward, and would be in competition with the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals for a first-team place.
