Former Brighton defender Ezequiel Schelotto has been tempted by a switch to Crystal Palace but his future remains uncertain, as reported by Il Resto del Carlino.
After three years and 32 appearances at the Amex, is the unattached Argentine about to take a sledgehammer to his reputation on the South Coast?
It is fair to say that Brighton and Palace are not the best of friends and, if Schelotto joins the latter, it certainly won’t go down well with the former.
Then again, given that Brighton opted to release Schelotto at the end of 2019/20, they could hardly criticise the veteran full-back for wanting to get his career back on track; regardless of where his revival takes place.
According to reports in Italy, the 31-year-old is interested in a potential return to the Premier League, yet whether he ends up at Selhurst Park is anyone’s guess.
Strangely enough, Schelotto has also been linked with a move to Italian third-tier outfit Sambenedettese, after taking a little too long to consider his future, the Serie C club have turned their attention to Como’s Andrea Magrini.
You would think, then, with offers at a premium and after six months out of the game, he would jump at the chance to put pen to paper with Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace side.
But, with Nathaniel Clyne and Joel Ward already plying their trade at Selhurst Park, perhaps Schelotto is unconvinced by the idea of joining a club where he would more-than-likely be the third-choice option.
