Speaking on The Chronicles of a Gooner YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on reported Arsenal target Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian midfielder has been linked with a move to Arsenal over the past 24 hours, and as per usual, Romano was the man with the news on the situation.
This was something of a bittersweet update for Arsenal fans though, as Romano claimed that although Odegaard is definitely ready to move on loan, Real Socidedad are winning the race, and the likelihood of Madrid wanting to send Odegaard on loan to Arsenal where Dani Ceballos is already playing are slim.
“To be honest with you I’m checking, because like you I heard the rumour a few hours ago, so I am checking with people around Odegaard,” Romano said.
“Just with my experience, I would say that sending two players on loan to the same team, and remember that Odegaard would be a simple loan because Real Madrid don’t want to include any buy option at the moment for the player, so after Ceballes going on loan, also with Odegaard, would be like something strange in transfers.
“But let’s wait and see, because when you have this type of player on the market, and this is 100 per cent confirmed, Real Madrid are ready to loan Odegaard and the player wants to have his space.
“Leading the race for sure we have Real Sociedad just because the player was happy in Sociedad, he was playing and he knows the league, arriving in the Premier League for a young talent in January won’t be so easy, so he has the risk of arriving at Arsenal and not playing immediately.”

Arsenal seem to be facing an uphill battle to sign Odegaard when you consider all of this information.
Sociedad are leading the race, which isn’t what you want to hear if you’re an Arsenal fan, and as Romano says, it would be strange if Madrid opted to send two of their loan players to the same club, especially when they play in similar positions.
Of course, anything can happen in football, so this is one worth keeping an eye on, even if it seems like a tough deal for Arsenal to do.
