Drake has pushed back the release of his new album Certified Lover Boy due to surgery, but what operation did he actually have?
Fans were hugely excited for Drake’s new album to drop as he hasn’t released a full studio album since Scorpion in 2018. Certified Lover Boy was due to drop in January 2021, but unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
The album release has had to be delayed after Drake had an operation in October, and he’s had to spend the latter part of 2020 in recovery.
So what surgery did Drake have? Here’s everything you need to know.
What surgery did Drake have?
Back in October, Drake revealed that he had surgery on his knee.
He never actually revealed what the injury was, but took to his Instagram Story on October 31st to share a photo of his knee in a cast with the caption: “New challenge unlocked.”
In a second story, he said: “I actually want to use this post to send love and motivation to anybody else that 2020 let loose on. Start writing the best bounce back story NOW.”
Fans are speculating that he tore his ACL, however, Drake has not confirmed this.
In 2009, Drake had surgery after tearing three ligaments while on stage, so this operation could also be linked to that previous injury.
Drake has almost recovered
After having the knee operation almost three months ago, is seems as though Drake is almost fully recovered.
On January 13th he took to Instagram again to share a photo of himself in the gym with the caption: “10 weeks post-op I’m grinding for recovery EVERYDAY.”
He also posted a video showing himself squatting and lifting weights, a sure sign that his knee is pretty much back to normal.
He has delayed the release of his new album
Drake took to Instagram on Wednesday (January 20th) to reveal that his new album Certified Lover Boy, which was meant to be released this month, will be delayed.
“I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery. I’m blessed to be back on my feet, feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January. I’m looking forward to sharing it with you in 2021.”
In the post, he revealed that as well as surgery, he has also been in rehab. However, he did not reveal whether the two are linked.
Recovering from surgery has obviously stopped Drake from being able to get the album ready on time, but he did reveal that the album would still be dropping at some point in 2021.
The new release date has not yet been announced.
