Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has discussed Steven Bergwijn’s recent performance against Sheffield United and the view of people within Tottenham on the winger.

Bergwijn has become something of a mainstay in Tottenham’s starting XI in recent months, and Gold is claiming that everyone at Tottenham has high hopes for the Dutchman’s future.

The winger has been at Spurs for just over 12 months now, and it looks as though he is constantly improving.

“So an assist for Bergwijn, which will be brilliant for his confidence,” Gold said.

“There was one moment as well when Hugo Lloris booted a long kick out of his goal, Bergwijn took it so beautifully on the turn and he got wiped out on the Sheffield United box.

“He absolutely adds more thrust to Tottenham’s attack and he lets Son and Kane do what they do, I will back him to the hilt, the goals will come, Mourinho said that repeatedly and everyone in the club has high hopes for Bergwijn.

“He was bought for a reason, they’d been tracking him for a while and he had incredible potential, what is he 22, 23? He has so much potential.”

This is obviously brilliant to hear.

Tottenham are rarely wrong about a young player, and while Bergwijn hasn’t looked like a world-beater every time he steps onto the pitch, it’s clear that people at Spurs think he’s got a big future ahead of him.

Tottenham know a talent when they see one, the majority of pundits were ready to write off Tanguy Ndombele this time last year, but he’s proven everyone wrong and that’s down to the faith Spurs had in him.

We can only hope that Bergwijn continues to grow as a player.
