According to Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws (via Voetbal24) Anderlecht are no longer interested in Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic after learning of his hefty asking price.
Indeed, the report claims that Fulham want at least €20 million (£17.8m) for the Serbian this month, and as you can imagine, that fee is a bit too high for the Belgian side.
Mitrovic had been linked with a return to his former club, but that now seems unlikely. However, it seems as though EuroSport’s report about Fulham being open to bids for the striker was on the money.
£17.8m represents a fair market value for Mitrovic in this day and age, coronavirus has brought everyone’s price down a touch and he’s been out of form for quite some time at this point.
Whether or not any team will be willing to pay such a fee of course remains to be seen.
Mitrovic is undoubtedly a talented attacker on his day, after all, he was the Championship Golden Boot winner last season, but with Fulham changing to a more counter-attacking approach in recent weeks, there seems to be no room for him in Scott Parker’s team at the moment.
The January window has been relatively quiet when it comes to rumours at Craven Cottage, but the sale of Mitrovic could spark Tony Khan and his recruitment team into life at any moment.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
