Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has received a new update to its mobile app. Version 1.2 adds a lot of new content to the game, including the long-awaited Runic Power theme.

While having since been eclipsed in popularity by Fortnite, PUBG remains one of the most popular Battle Royale games available at present – especially on mobile platforms outside of India (where the game is currently banned).

The new update, though, brings the recently released Runic Power theme to mobile players, providing a whole new way to play the iconic title.

What’s in PUBG Mobile’s Runic Power update?

The 1.2 update to PUBG Mobile brings in Runic Power. Players can select one of three Runes – Fire, Wind, and Ice – at the beginning of any battle to gain special powers.

The Fire Rune creates a Magma Wheel which rolls forward, defending the player. It also can add fire damage to bullets.

The Wind Rune creates a protective wind barrier and also allows the player to increase their movement speed. The Ice Rune creates an ice barrier to block ranged weapons and also adds freeze damage to bullets.

Is PUBG 2 coming in 2021?

Rumours have begun to circulate that a new PUBG game – possibly PUBG 2 – will be released at some point in 2021.

These rumours are a little overblown – in reality, Bloomberg has reported that PUBG’s parent company has told investors that a game related to the first will debut in the near future, possibly by some point in 2022.

This is far from the certain PUBG 2 mobile release or update that fans have been hoping for.

Will PUBG Mobile return to India soon?

PUBG Mobile has been banned in India for several months, but players hope that the new update might eventually reach the country. Rumours suggest that a playable version of the game is about to be released, but there are no confirmed plans for the return of PUBG Mobile, so players shouldn’t get their hopes up.

PUBG can still be accessed in India if players make use of a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to mask their phone’s location. There are several free VPNs available on mobile app stores, but they’re not very reliable, often too slow to work for online games, and could present a privacy risk.

For now, Indian PUBG fans looking to play the new Runic Power update on mobile will either need to wait in the hopes that the app is re-released in the country, or pay for a more secure VPN that guarantees a faster service.
