David Alaba to Real Madrid ideal for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur paid up a considerable £27million to sign Sergio Reguilon over the summer, and what a signing he has been.

The Spanish left back has quickly become a fan favourite in North London, with his marauding runs up the left flank earning huge praise.

Reguilon has picked up three Premier League assists already, and he looks like being a key part of the Tottenham side for years to come – as long as Real Madrid don’t return.

The Spanish giants placed a buy-back clause into Reguilon’s deal, meaning they can re-sign the left back for around £42million if they so wish.

Tottenham fans have been fearful of this clause; they know that Real could snatch Reguilon away from them either in the summer of 2021 or 2022.

Now though, Spurs may have received their dream transfer news, and they won’t have had to spend a penny in the process.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is set to sign a pre-contract agreement to join Real Madrid, and the deal will be done within a matter of weeks.

So how does this impact Spurs? Well, Alaba may have played at centre back for Bayern in recent times, but he still offers great quality from the left back spot.

If Real want to use Alaba at left back, they certainly can, and they already have Marcelo and Ferland Mendy in that position, meaning they have no use for Reguilon as things stand.

Activating the buy-back clause to have Reguilon as third or even fourth choice just wouldn’t make sense, and Alaba’s imminent move to the Spanish capital may just give Spurs the dream situation of Reguilon staying put for a long, long time.
