Football London‘s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold has provided an update on the club’s pursuit of Beijing Guoan colossus Kim Min-jae.

Gold confirms that Spurs have been looking at the 24-year-old over the past year.

However, the update is that the north Londoners are not expected to make a move for him this month.

That isn’t to say that Jose Mourinho’s side will not act on their interest at some point, although there doesn’t seem to be much chance of a January deal.

If Tottenham do end up bringing the South Korea international to north London, it seems they’d be getting a fine centre-back, by all accounts.

Korean football expert Sungmo Lee from Goal Korea spoke to Gold back in July about Heung-min Son’s international teammate, and only had good things to say.

As quoted by Football London, Lee said: “He has huge potential. He’s big, strong, and fast. He’s strong in the air, and also has good feet. He has a strong character as well which Mourinho always likes.”

Kim has been nicknamed ‘The Monster’ in his native Korea for his dominant performances at the back – he could be just what Mourinho needs.

So far this season, the ex-Chelsea boss hasn’t really found a consistent centre-back pairing that he’s happy with.

There has been an infrequent use of Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon, with Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier starting most games alongside each other.

However, Spurs still have a weakness at defending set-pieces.

Worryingly, they have thrown away numerous leads this term too, notably against West Ham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Fulham.
