Memphis Depay has said that his teammate and reported Arsenal target Houssem Aouar will leave Lyon eventually, as quoted in Goal.com.

The Lyon forward has said that, just like him, Aouar is a very ambitious footballer and wants to play for bigger clubs.

The 26-year-old former Manchester United forward has added that for now he is focused on helping Lyon win the Ligue 1 title this season.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, who works for The Guardian and SkySport, said on the Feather on Football podcast this month that Arsenal are interested in the 22-year-old, adding that the Gunners “love him” and are “convinced he would be perfect in their midfield”, as covered by HITC Sport.

Goal.com quotes Depay as saying: “We know we play for a very big club but we want to go to one of the top three clubs in the world. Then you will see Houssem, he will get 10 times better. For me, it’s the same.”

Depay added: “It would mean everything to me to win the Ligue 1 title with Houssem Aouar, the team and the president.”

Unlikely January transfer

Lyon are third in the Ligue 1 table at the moment with 40 points from 20 matches, just two points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club are challenging for the title this season, and it is hard to see them entertain any offers for Aouar.

The 22-year-old France international midfielder is an important player for his club, and has scored three goals and provided three assists in 16 Ligue 1 games so far this season, according to WhoScored.
