Martin Keown has labelled the Leeds United’s home pitch as ‘really shocking’, as he told Final Score on BBC One.

Leeds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday and Keown felt that the conditions on the day were ‘appalling’.

Neal Maupay scored the only goal of the game, as the usually fluid, vibrant and relentless Leeds side looked blunt in the final third.

The former defender compared the conditions at Elland Road to the Don Revie era as the man in the dugout fell to a morale-sapping defeat.

“Conditions were appalling,” said Keown. “I thought the pitch was really shocking.

“It was like a throwback to the Don Revie era. I remember that. You don’t want to go back to that era.”

The Elland Road pitch will be last on Bielsa’s mind because he needs his team back up and running again.

What was unusual about the Brighton defeat was the fact that Leeds didn’t look themselves in front of goal.

Whilst a lot has been made of their defence this season, they continue to attack in a ruthless manner, but none of that was evident against Brighton.
