Arsenal could be in the market for a new right back in the near future – but don’t expect to see Tariq Lamptey heading there any time soon.
The Gunners do have Hector Bellerin, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ future is unclear and Cedric Soares is little more than cover.
Reports from The Mirror in December suggested that Arsenal have picked out Brighton and Hove Albion ace Lamptey to replace Bellerin should he leave the Emirates Stadium.
Talk of Bellerin leaving Arsenal has slowed down, and if Lamptey was the top choice to replace him, then the Gunners will be disappointed.
Brighton have today confirmed that Lamptey has penned a new deal to stay on the South Coast, signing up until 2025.
Lamptey only joined Brighton from Chelsea last January, but his performances have been so good that he has already earned an improved contract.
The 20-year-old may only be 5ft 5in tall, but he has been simply outstanding going forward, causing utter mayhem with his pace and attacking intent.
Arsenal may well remain interested in Lamptey, but that new deal makes a move any time soon look unlikely – and they would now have to pay an even bigger fee to land him.
