Speaking to Sky Sports’ YouTube channel, Mohamed Salah has admitted that he and Dejan Lovren cried when it was decided that the Croatian was leaving Liverpool.
Salah and Lovren were close friends at Anfield, but the seemingly inseparable pair were separated by Lovren moving to Zenit in the summer.
Salah was asked about how he reacted to the news that Lovren was leaving Liverpool and whether or not it was an emotional moment.
“Yeah it was, I think we were crying outside,” Salah said.
“When I know that he was leaving already, we shared a really emotional moment, we were sad. I was happy for him because he wanted to go and I also was sad because he’s a good friend of mine and we’re still in touch until now.”
This is one of the sad realities of football.
Players form close bonds with their teammates, but circumstances changing can alter the dynamics of the entire dressing room.
Luckily, Lovren’s departure hasn’t affected Salah’s performances on the pitch as he’s still been on top-form this season, but it is interesting to hear how he reacted to Lovren being sold.
The irony in all of this is that Liverpool could probably have done with a player like Lovren this season as their injury crisis at centre-back has left them with a severely depleted squad.
