Keown said about Ndombele on talkSPORT: “[Tanguy] Ndombele plays in a role but you can’t believe the amount of work that Ndombele does out of possession and I think that’s a problem for Dele Alli.

“Mourinho thinks he can’t do that job. Yes, when he has the ball that’s a different matter and he can be equally as good as Ndombele.

“He’s underrated Ndombele with what he does. He sits on the deep-lying midfielder player of the opposition, he stops them running and the amount of work he gets through is integral to Mourinho’s tactics that he likes to employ. He (Alli) doesn’t suit the tactics of Mourinho.”

Important player for Tottenham Hotspur

Ndombele has established himself as an important player for Tottenham and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet when he is fit.

According to WhoScored, the Frenchman has made 13 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.

Ndombele has formed a formidable partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the two midfielders working very hard, and that will be key for Spurs in the coming weeks and months.

Tottenham are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 30 points from 17 matches, six points behind leaders Manchester United.

Spurs are very much in the race for the Premier League title this season and are also in the Europa League.
