Tim Sherwood has told the Kelly and Wrighty Show, which was broadcast on Optus Sport, that he feels that Arsenal need to consider dropping Willian, Gabriel, Granit Xhaka and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Lee Dixon, who was also working as a pundit on the show, suggested that Arsenal’s young players like Emile Smith Rowe are going to need to be taken out of the side at some stage to ensure their form doesn’t dip.

But Sherwood claimed that Arsenal also cannot depend on their more experienced players.

And he said: “Who can Arteta rely on? We are talking about bringing the kids out at the right time. He should have brought Willian out a long time ago, Gabriel needed to come out, Xhaka needed to come out, Aubameyang, perhaps, needs to come out as well.

“It’s not only the young kids who have their dips, it’s also the established players.”

Sherwood’s claim that Aubameyang may need dropping would have been unthinkable going into the season.

However, the Gabon striker has not carried his usual threat so far this term and his goalscoring struggles have continued, despite Arsenal’s recent up-turn in results.

Aubameyang has just three goals to his name in 16 Premier League matches, which represents a poor return for a player of his quality.

Aubameyang drew another blank last night, as Arsenal could only manage a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.
