Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has admitted to Football London that he still hasn’t decided whether Gareth Bale will start on Sunday.
Spurs are set to take on Sheffield United this weekend, and the game could present an opportunity to play Bale.
The Welshman has often been overlooked by Mourinho this term, as the Spurs boss has favoured a more cautious approach.
However, Tottenham will be expected to be on the front foot against the Premier League’s bottom side.
And when asked if Bale could get some game time on Sunday, Mourinho said: “I don’t know. I haven’t made a decision yet. We have to train today and tomorrow, I haven’t decided the team. Let’s wait.”
Some concerns have been raised this week over Bale’s treatment at Tottenham.
The 31-year-old was not given a minute’s worth of action in midweek, despite Tottenham needing a goal in their game against Fulham.
In the end that decision backfired on Mourinho, as Spurs were unable to find a winner, and slipped to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Scott Parker’s side.
Since that game there has been suggestions that Tottenham won’t take up the option on Bale’s loan to keep him for another season, but Mourinho refuted those claims.
“Was not a second of discussion about that [since he arrived]. Gareth is a player on loan until the end of the season. Not one second of discussion. We are talking about Gareth himself, Real Madrid, Tottenham,” he added.
