According to a report from The Athletic, Mamadou Sakho’s thigh injury has scuppered any chances he had of moving in the January transfer window amid interest from West Brom.

The Baggies have reportedly been keen to sign the Frenchman, with Steve Madeley recently claiming that the Midlands club had made enquiries about the centre-back.

Unfortunately, it now seems as though the defender won’t be on the move this month, with his thigh injury ruling him out for a number of weeks.

Whether or not West Brom will now target another centre-back in this window remains to be seen, but the fact that the 29-cap France international won’t be on the move is certainly a big blow.

Sakho could have been the key to fixing West Brom’s defensive problems, after all, Sam Allardyce has worked with him before, and he’s previously called him a ‘good defender’.

Fortunately for the Baggies, Allardyce has a very long list of contacts, so he should be able to find another centre-back that the Midlands outfit can get in between now and the end of the month.

Of course, Sakho is out of contract at Crystal Palace at the end of the season, so a summer move on a Bosman could be on the cards, but whether or not West Brom are one of the teams in the hunt by the time the summer rolls around remains to be seen.

Either way, West Brom now need to re-evaluate their plans this month.
