According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are pursuing Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli ahead of a possible summer move.
It’s claimed that the 23-year-old features high on City’s list of central midfield targets for the summer, with Pep Guardiola and co needing options there.
Fernandinho’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning Locatelli may well be lined up as his replacement if needed.
Sassuolo would expect around £30million for Locatelli given that he is under contract until 2023, whilst Juventus have been long-term admirers.
The Italian has been key to Roberto De Zerbi’s superb Sassuolo side, operating asa holding midfielder with a superb passing range.
Locatelli was hailed for his ‘great technical skills and imagination’ by Silvio Berlusconi in 2016, even suggesting that he is ‘the heir of Andrea Pirlo’.

That should certainly appeal to Guardiola, though Locatelli’s former club AC Milan are also interested in luring him back to the San Siro.
Having stagnated a little at Milan, Locatelli is fulfilling his potential with Sassuolo – and it could just lead to a big move to City this summer.
