According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have now struck a deal to sign Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.
It’s claimed that Barca already have a pre-contract agreement in place with Garcia to sign at the end of the season, having struck a five-year deal.
Now though, it’s claimed that City have lowered their asking price for a permanent deal this month, and Barca are ready to strike a deal.
They wanted €20million (£17.8million) over the summer, but Barcelona now think they can sign Garcia for just €5million (£4.5million) with another €5million at a later date.
That’s a bargain £9million deal for Barca, who feel they need Garcia right now rather than having to wait until the end of the season.
With the deal seemingly close, Garcia is set to return to his hometown club and leave the Premier League, with Arsenal missing out in the process.
The Sun reported last month that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wanted to reunite with his fellow Spaniard, having coached him at Manchester City.
Barcelona were always favourites though, and having lined up that pre-contract deal, they are now ready to sign him this month and leave Arsenal looking elsewhere if they still want another centre back.
