Instagram users are reporting errors with Instagram’s music feature. Why is Instagram music not working?
Back in 2018, Instagram introduced the ability to add music to your Stories. The app’s pre-made library has a huge selection featuring pretty much every song you could ever want, and it quickly became one of the app’s most popular features.
However, since the start of 2021, some Instagram users have reported issues when trying to use music on Instagram. The feature hasn’t been working properly, and people have been taking to Twitter to rant about it.

Over the past few weeks, many Instagram users have been reporting issues when trying to add music to their stories.
People are reporting that the normal music library has disappeared, leaving only a series of random songs. An error message titled “music access changed” is also appearing for many people that says:
“We recently became aware that your business account inadvertently had access to our licensed music library. Unfortunately, we have to remove that access. You can still use music from Facebook’s Sound Collection which features more than 9,000 royalty-free songs and sounds from a variety of genres.”
So, it seems as though the error is occurring for people with business accounts, but why?
Why isn’t Instagram music working?
In some countries around the world, Instagram’s rules state that if you have a business account, you are unable to add music to your Instagram story due to copyright issues.
This is why some business accounts can post music and others can’t, because it depends where you are in the world as he rules differ depending on location.
So, if you want to use Instagram music, you’ll have to change your business profile.
How to fix Instagram music
If you want to get music back, all you have to do it change your profile from a business account to either a personal or a creator one. A creator profile has most of the same features that a business profile has, so you won’t really notice the difference.
To do this, go to settings and tap ‘account’. Then, scroll down and press ‘switch account type’.
However, some people have reported that even after changing their account back to personal or creator, the music still doesn’t work. If this is the case, here are some things you could try:
- Log out and then log back into the app.
- Delete and re-install the Instagram app.
- Make sure you’ve updated your app.
