Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Jurgen Klopp is personally scouting out Yves Bissouma with a view to signing him for Liverpool.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the Brighton midfielder for quite some time, and it seems as though the Merseyside club are seriously interested in making a move for the Mali international.
The journalist claims that the Reds see him as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, and Jurgen Klopp has been asking questions to people close to Bissouma to find out more about him.
“Well, Bissouma’s contract runs until 2023, so he’s getting into that danger area for the club who holds his contract, in that if they don’t sell him this coming summer then he starts moving into his second to last year and his transfer value reduces drastically,” Castles said.
“I think if you look at Liverpool, it’s clear that Bissouma is being thought of as an option to replace Gini Wijnaldum if he leaves at the end of the season. He’s a similar type of player, he performs a similar type of role, he’s much younger. You mentioned his statistical high rating and we know that’s one of the filters Liverpool use before presenting options to Jurgen Klopp as options.
“My understanding is that Klopp has done some work to ask questions about Bissouma to people who know him well, which suggests that this is something Liverpool have on a potential list of replacements.”
This is a very interesting update.
Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t be doing this sort of work personally unless there was a serious interest from Liverpool in landing Bissouma.
Of course, whether or not the Reds sign him remains to be seen, but if this is true, it seems as though there is a big interest there.
This is definitely a situation that we should be keeping an eye on.
