This week’s Pokémon Go Spotlight Hour provides a chance for players to chatch a Shiny Drifloon, plus the opportunity to earn double XP for each Pokémon captured.

Generally considered to be one of the more disturbing Pokémon (and that is saying something!), Drifloon is a balloon filled with hot air which, according to its Pokédex entry, attempts to lure unsuspecting children to their doom by grabbing them and floating them away into the sky.

The Shiny variant of Drifloon is one of the more eye-catching Shinies in the game, as the Pokémon is bright yellow instead of its standard purple colour.

How to catch Shiny Drifloon during Pokémon Go’s Spotlight Hour

To get a Shiny Drifloon during Pokémon Go’s spotlight hour, you’ll need to catch as many Pokémon as possible between 18:00 and 19:00 local time on Tuesday January 12. During this hour, Drifloon will appear more commonly in the wild.

Actually catching a Shiny Drifloon will all come down to chance, as the Pokémon’s yellow variant will appear randomly. That said, with so many Drifloons spawning at once during the Spotlight Hour, there’s an increased chance that a Shiny one might appear.

To increase your chances of catching a Shiny Drifloon, you can use a Lure at a PokéStop, or Incense if you’re walking around, to encourage more Pokémon to spawn. More Drifloons means more opportunity to find a Shiny.

How to get quadruple XP during Pokémon Go’s Drifloon Spotlight Hour

As a bonus, during today’s Spotlight Hour, catching a Pokémon will reward the player with double XP. This can be doubled again by using a Lucky Egg, meaning you’ll be able to receive quadruple the usual amount of XP for every Pokémon you capture.

This won’t just apply to Drifloon, so if you see other Pokémon during the hour, feel free to catch them as well. If you are catching Drifloons, though, it’s worth bearing in mind that the round balloon Pokémon is the perfect shape for getting an Excellent throw by hitting a Pokémon in the very centre of the small ring that forms around it while aiming your PokéBall.

Get the ring nice and small by holding the PokéBall until the last second, then aim for the middle of the ring. If you manage to make an Excellent throw, you’ll be rewarded with a huge extra XP bonus.

Between all the extra experience and the chance of a Shiny, it’ll be well worth opening up Pokémon Go during the Drifloon Spotlight Hour.
