But what isn’t discussed as often is what happened to Mufasa’s body after Simba is forced to flee from Pride Rock.

A number of theories have emerged over the years, suggesting various fates for Mufasa after his death.

Did he simply decompose? Or did the hyenas or even Scar eat Mufasa’s remains instead?

Mufasa’s death in The Lion King

Mufasa’s death is a scene that no one who has seen The Lion King will ever forget.

The stampede of the wildebeest, Mufasa’s desperate efforts to save Simba and, of course, Scar’s sinister line, “Long live the king,” as he throws Mufasa to his death.

And then, we get the heartbreaking moment when Simba tries to wake Mufasa and ends up cuddling up to his motionless father before Scar emerges from the dust.

Did Scar eat Mufasa?

  • It’s never confirmed in The Lion King what happened to Mufasa’s body once Scar takes the throne and Simba is forced to leave Pride Rock.

Several theories have emerged over the years about what happens to Mufasa, ranging from him being eaten to him decomposing and becoming part of the Circle of Life.

In the African savanna, where food can sometimes be scarce for animals, it’s highly likely that Mufasa became a meal for someone.

As a result, scavengers like hyenas or vultures seem like prime suspects at first.

However, when Scar orders his hyena henchmen to chase down Simba, he is left alone with Mufasa’s body.

Who knows what happened after that?

One theory suggests that Scar can be seen holding a lion skull in a later scene when he has Zazu prisoner, but the skull in question more closely resembles that of a baboon.

In an ideal world, Mufasa would simply have decomposed and become the grass that feeds the antelope in the next stage of the Circle of Life.

The hyenas do eat Scar

While the fate of Mufasa’s body is left unconfirmed, the final showdown at Pride Rock leaves Scar on the wrong end of a pack of angry hyenas.

The hyenas have had enough of Scar and his lies by the end of the film and can be seen surrounding the cowardly lion before pouncing on him.

Scar promised the hyenas food but when he couldn’t deliver and then threatened to betray them, the hyenas turned on him instead.
